I grew up about 30 miles south of Boston, improbably raised as a New York Yankees fan by my baseball coach of a grandfather. (Contrarianism comes naturally.) I attended Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs, graduating with degrees in Television, Radio & Film and Political Science.
At Syracuse, I was the weekly music critic for the Daily Orange, an incredibly fun role where I started to hone my passion for persuasive, creative writing. I also worked for BrandYourself.com, an emerging startup that specialized in online reputation management. That job exposed me to a previously unknown world of digital strategy, managing a team of bloggers, and optimizing Google search results to benefit clients.
When I started my career in DC after college, I always felt a need to inject that need to persuade into everything I wrote, and looked for ways to apply what I learned in SEO, content strategy, and digital marketing to my client projects.
I have a few principles when it comes to writing: First, don't assume you got it right the first time. Second, jettison the jargon. And third, use the damn Oxford comma. (I will wage war over that.) These principles flow through my work, which you'll see and learn about on this site.
